Hey, I'm currently transferring videos to an external hard drive with my e1505. The hard drive is usb 2.0 compliant, but my transfer speed is about 11mbps. Is this normal?
The transfer is nearly complete now, but I'd still like to know as I still have my Music collection I wanna move over.
EDIT: Speed is now topping at .96 mbps
EDIT2: Speed is now at around 250 kbps....What's going on?

Are you just transfering or editing? My external 7200 is read speed 16MB/s so I think it might sound slow, but you are writing.

mine is about 21mb/s

perhaps you have a loose connection - check the USB cable. Either that or somehow your USB (either the HDD or the laptop) is reverting back to USB 1.1. Most USB hard drives will average 15 - 25 MB/sec.

Many small files can be slow. Big files should be much faster.

What is your caching policy setting for the removable drive?
My Computer > Manage > Disk Management, right click on the removable drive, select properties then click on the policies tab. You need to select Optimise for performance. This will push data through as fast as the drive's cache can swallow it. The default is Optimise for quick removal which means that the files are set through one at a time after the HDD has confirmed that the previous one is written to the HDD. This makes the transfer of small files very slow.

Thanks a lot guys. I switched it to optimize, restarted, and notice a significant, more steady rate. Thnx again.
