    Hi,
I bought this USB 3.0 54 express card for use with my HP Elitebook 2530p. It uses the Fresco Logic FL1100 chipset and came with a cd with the drivers. I installed the drivers (Fresco Logic controller and root hub drivers), and although my windows 7 recognized the device, it did not recognize any flash drive or portable hard drive attached, In fact the Cruzer flash drives I attached didn't even light up, so it seemed they were not getting power. Is there something else I should be doing, or is there a problem with the express card?

Yes, that is correct; some devices will need external power with this adaptor - see quote from your link above:

Does any device work though? Even a mouse/keyboard?

This is one of the reasons for a current platform: 100% compliance to different spec's - not just 'compatible'.

Thanks. I was aware that some external devices need another source of power, but a flash drive should certainly work. even one portable external drive should be able to draw power from the express card. I didn't think of trying a mouse, so I will try that later today.
    Thanks

Yeah flash drive should be no problem. It is not a "high current device". But mouse or keyboard would definitely be a good test. Even if mouse/keyboard work and flash drives don't I would return/exchange it because it won't be of any use to you otherwise.

Assuming its not a faulty card (my first one was bad), it most likely is a driver issue. This plagued me with my early use (accepting some drives and completely not recognizing others), but has been relatively stable since W8.

I must say I was quite surprised when it actually picked up a a Logitech USB receiver for a wireless mouse. So now the question is why won't it pick up a flash drive?

I just got Sandisk Facet flash drive to work and I think I figured out the reason for all the problems. The express card is a little to short for the slot in my 2530p, therefore the ports sink in to the chassis a litttle. As a result most devices cannot be pushed fully in to the port since they hit the chassis before they are fully inserted in the port. Only teh facet which does not get thicker then the male connector can be pushed as far in as needed to properly connect. The same for the Logitech. Most USb Devices will get stuck on the chassis.
By the way the length of the card is 7.3 Millimeter. Can anyone please measure there card to see if it's slightly longer (probably should be 7.4 or even a little longer in orer to line up to the edges of the slot).
Thanks everyone for all the help.

I think you misunderstood. My express card is too short therefore the ports are slightly inside the laptop chassis, which is the exact opposite of your problem. The express card is about 2mm shorter than the blank insert from HP which was in the slot.
