"USB 3.2 standard gets new, even more confusing names ahead of its mainstream debut"
The new spec promises up to 20Gbps speeds, but the names are more complicated than ever

Looks like we'll need a matrix chart to look up what USB tech matches what name:

+ 5Gbps = USB 3.2 Gen 1 is the same as the originally named USB 3.0, and renamed to USB 3.1 Gen 1

+ 10Gbps = USB 3.2 Gen 2 was previously known as USB 3.1, and then later renamed to USB 3.1 Gen 2

    + 20Gbps = USB 3.2 Gen 2x2: formally known as USB 3.2

Sheesh!! Did you get all of that?

Too bad the left out the connector types (USB-A and USB-C)

well its not THAT complicated. but still, pretty superfluous! why not just stick to USB 3.0, USB 3.1 and USB 3.2? i tell you why: marketing!

This is ridiculously stupid. Now, when looking for a 3.2 gen 1 hub or ethernet adapter we'll have to make 3x searches - for 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2 - while when looking for true 3.2 gen 2x2 we'll be flooded with 3.2 gen 1 and 3.2 gen 2 hardware listings.

And all that is already outdated because now we have USB 4, which is Thunderbolt 3, which used USB 3.1 port C aka USB 3.2 generation 1, which now maybe will be using port A and hopefully again port C and due to that isn't USB 3.2 kind of dead on arrival and should be skipped all together?

just cuz its announced it doesnt mean that itll become a standard in no time. usually takes years for something like that to even get a final JEDEC draft, let alone be actually implemented in hardware.

the plan is to finalize USB 4 by summer, but, since this is basically TB3 and it's already supported under 3.1 or whatever version it is and uses C port (sorry seems no more A port connector) I actually don't understand why it takes that long. The way I see it, nothing changed since 3.1, except before you could have TB3 with USB 3, or not depending on manufacturer if they wanted to pay royalties. Now no more royalties so if it is USB4 it must have TB3 support.
