Ok, so I have had my WD 500GB USB drive for about 6 months, but for some reason it's being finicky with Vista at the moment. If I shut down my computer and turn it back on, it works fine. But if I close the lid, let the computer go to sleep, then open it again, the drive is gone, even if I plug it into another port. I see the device in Device Manager, but not in Computer or Disk Management. I have about 5 things including the HD plugged into a hub, but I've never had any problems with it. Also, if I boot into Windows 7, the problem does not exist. Any ideas? Oh and I've tried plugging the HD directly into a USB port after my computer wakes up, and the same thing happens.

Try restarting your computer if you can't see the USB drive.

Like I said, I can see it if I restart my computer. The problem comes when I bring my computer out of sleep mode.

maybe you should disconnect when you sleep and reconnect when you turn your laptop on

Still the same issue. There has to be a way for my computer to see my hard drive short of restarting every time.
