Out of the blue, the five USB ports on my Asus N80 decide to die on me. I have tested all 5 ports with various USB devices, but none of them are recognized.

Device Manager shows everything as working, but there are four unknown devices under USB controllers, I imagine those would be the devices I tested on the different ports.

Suggestions anyone? My search turned up the description of possible motherboard failure.

It certainly sounds like it. Have you tried taking out the battery and running it off AC only, or running it off battery only?

Also, when did this happen? Did they just fail after you came out of sleep, or Hibernation? The ports on my desktop do this sometimes and I have to restart to get them to work again.

Hmm, it happened while the system was switched on. Have restarted with no result.

Tried with AC and Battery only, no change.

    This post did it.

Did a full restart, and USB ports worked again.

That was quite the informative post. It gives me a thoughtful reason why my battery on my sony always drained when off and not plugged it.
