    Would using one of these

    With the main connector plugged to the mobo, while the auxiliary cable plugged to the mains, allow the use of input devices on the hub while drawing power from the mains and not my mobo?

    Short answer, no. It will likely draw less power from the USB port connected in your laptop, but it will still draw some.
