For over a year I have been using a platform fan and a speakerbar for my notebook PC (specs in signature below), both of which are USB plug-in devices. Just last night, my platform fan stopped working, while the speakerbar continues to operate. I realize the platform fan may simply have expired and I need to replace it, but before I do, I want to make sure the problem is not fixable. Could the problem be related to the USB controller set-up--do I need to uninstall one or more USB root hubs and/or USB composite devices in the device manager? If helpful, I've attached a JPEG image of the device manager array with both devices (fan and speaker) installed. Does one or more of the USB root hubs and/or USB composite devices pertain to the USB platform fan, and if so, should I uninstall it/them while the fan remains installed? If this is correct, how do I identify the correct USB root hub and/or USB composite device? Despite opening the "properties" of each one, I could not identify the USB root hub or composite device pertaining to the USB platform fan.

Of course, the problem could be something else altogether and I greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks much for reading and any advice.

I would try it on another computer.
does it have CD disk with drivers.

try to refresh configuration of device (right click on device in device manager.)

    UPDATE:

The platform fan appears to have indeed simply expired. I plugged its USB cable into my back-up notebook PC (same model as my main PC) and the fan did not activate. Fortuitously, I had purchased another platform fan at the same time as the expired one, but had not opened it since then. I took the opportunity to try the new fan, also USB-driven, and it works perfectly with my PC.

I apologize for the premature post, I should have taken the steps above before posting. Thanks to James D for the suggestions.
