Hi,
I didn't really know where to go with this problem.
Anyway here it goes...
while I was booting up my computer (desktop with xp), I accidentally removed a 4gb flash drive from the usb slot then put it on my laptop (vista). the usb was not recognized on the laptop.
After that, I put it back on the desktop (xp). It loaded the message : drivers could not be installed properly (or something like this).
Since then, it is not recognized on any computer.
Could someone help...and will putting it in a mac or linux help get my files back.
Thanks![]()

Have you tried plugging in the flash drive in a different usb port on either the notebook or desktop?
-
Yes I did. Actually the xp desktop was in school just beside my laptop (vista). I tried other desktops (xp) but nothing.
The weird thing is that desktop seems to be pretty bizarre after this. Some icons disappeared on the desk even with all the protection school puts up.
I hope it's only the boot up part of the drive that got screwed. Don't really care for the drive itself but the files yes. -
Oh yeah...
just went into the device manager in vista (my laptop) and found Kingston Data Traveller 2.0 USB Device.
control panel --> device manager -->disk drive
Should I try to update the drivers or simply uninstall them even if the problem didn't start on my laptop but on my school xp desktop. -
Forget it. Just by clicking the kingston Data Traveler 2.0 USB Device in the device manager and doing nothing else, well here it is...my beautiful kingston folder is back...didn't even realize it while writing that other message.
Thanks anyway for the response
I'll quickly copy everything on to my computer...really really fast... -
last update... done, finally on my computer...
all of my schoolwork for the last couple semesters was in that drive.
Everybody should learn something from this... -
Glad to hear you got everything sorted...Just remember for the future if you have all of your important files on your flash drive and not backed up anywhere else you are taking a huge risk. If you lose that drive then you are toast.
Also I would (after copying all the data off the flash drive itself) run a quick format on it just to make sure everything is reset.
