    Hi all,

I have an Acer Aspire 3680 laptop, in which the USB Stopped working due to a power surge of an external device.

When i further investigated I found out that the chip which control the power to the USB port was cracked. And the part no is Erased due to the burn marks.

The Laptop worked ok except for the USB port, when i removed the chip using a blowgun.

I have posted the picture below, If someone knows the part no of the chip please help me, so i can replace the same.

I highly doubt anyone would know. It would be unlikely for even acer to know! They would probably have to get the schematics from the ODM to figure it out.

can you please take a closeup on that chip.
    Preferably one which is clear.
Looking from the first image it looks like a small microcontroller.
I am not very familiar with your system board. But since you have your laptop apart locate other USB ports. That same chip should be very close to one of them. Hopefully that can key you in on what chip you need to replace.

Tks alot, I guess got the part no now (G528A2) , But now the matter is obtaining one

I already checked in the local market with no luck. Don't think it's any where near this part of the world. I've attached the datasheet for your reference.

    Anyways Tks again,

    Where are you located?

Have you tried searching for the part on Digikey or Mouser Electronics?

They should have the part you are looking for
    http://www.mouser.com/

I dont know how good you are with soldering, but you need to get a very fine tip, and you need a good soldering iron. Preferable about 45watts or more. It may take 700-750F to melt the current solder on the board.
You should also get your hands on a solder sucker device. They are amazing tools. It just sucks the extra solder away.
If you are not experienced, practice alot on broken stuff before actually going to solder your motherboard.

    I'm located in Sri Lanka.

Thanks to your site I managed to locate an equivalent for the product, I'm hoping to order it from the www.farnell.com local distributor here in SL.
Also Tks alot for your tips on Soldering. Think I know a person who does mobile phone repairs, guess he might be of help :D

I'll keep you posted on the progress,

    Cheers!

FYI, Sri Lanka is a Country in the Indian Ocean, a seperate island below India, And is not a part of India at all.

I just made the order, it comes via USPS, and takes upto 5-6 days i guess,

    Sure, I'll keep it posted!

    Cheers

    Success !!

I replaced the chip with a TPS2068 (Texas Instruments) Which i got from mouser Electronics, and it now works as good as new !!!!!!

and while it was open, I managed to buy a used Intel Core Solo T1350, I installed that to and of course raised my ram to 2 GB.

My gratitude goes to K-TRON and all others who helped me in reviving my laptop.......

    Thanks again

    Cheers
