Ok so my first major issue for the MSI MS1013 just came up!
Its all about USB ports. First of all, the sole port on the left side just plain doesn’t work, I can stick anything in, and windows recognises nothing, nothing happens.

When I take my flash drive over to the other side, everything is recognised, on both ports.

Here lies my second problem. Windows recognises the flash drive as a USB 2.0 (it says this tool can function faster) but that my ports are not capable of this. I heard you have to get SP2 for XP to make your ports 2.0, so I got SP2, still nothing.

So there, my one USB port is a dud, and the others are slow… ideas?

This may not apply but, did you notice that the USB on the left is up side down.

Just got mine yesterday and should have the bluetooth/wifi card in today... but I did install Win XP 64bit. All the USB work, need to wait for the network card before I stick to 64bit.

For the USB, did you try to roll back the drivers or just re-installing them. As for SP2, the USB should still function with SP1.

P.S. I have my machine open right now, and I don't see any cables or wires from the USB that could be lose. From what I can see the USB connection is welded right on the board, so no lose wire problem, maybe the board has a problem...

Yeah, it is upsidedown... still nothing works on it.

And about the speed of the other two, are there generic USB 2.0 drivers I could get?

Did you try to install the card reader driver/software from the cd provided with the laptop?

Also SP2 can be updated online, just takes a couple of hours and boots to update Windows upto SP2..... so keep doing windows updates and reboot, update, reboot, update, reboot..... (rince, lather, and repeat as needed)

A USB port being 2.0 has nothing to do with the version of Windows. It is made USB 2 by the hardware design surrounding it. You could have Windows ME and have USB 2 ports that will function as USB 2.

So something else is faulty with your usb ports. Try reloading the drivers for them.
