I have two USB to printer cables. I use one with a Windows XP laptop to one printer --- and a second one with an Apple G5 to a second printer.

I have the same problem in both scenarios. I can print to the printer when the computer first detects the printer (upon boot up or when I plug the USB cable in); however after some time passes in the same session and I try to print again the printer will not be found.

I've installed the driver that came with the cable and the printers. The configurations are set up as it prints some of the time. What could cause it to fail intermittently?

    Any help is appreciated!
    Thank you.

Two completely different independent systems? Two different cables? You have reinstalled drivers? Same problem with both? What are you doing? What sites do you visit? There is no logical explanation for two independent systems to experience the same identical problem with out having a common interaction or something. You need to figure out the connection. I mean even different printers no connection! Or two very old USB cables bought at the same time and worn out.

Correct. Two separate systems with the same problem. The USB cables are new to both systems. You can print when the computers are first turned on with the USB cable plugged in and connected to the printer; however if you try to print later in the day then the printer is no longer found. What could cause it to timeout?

I've recently set up both machines to use the USB cable to connect to the printers (as neither of the machines have a printer port and therefore the USB cable changes the 25 pin printer port to USB which the computers have). I must be missing some set up configuration in both instances.

Yes, the drivers for the printers and USB cable have been installed. What else can I try?
