If you configured a laptop with USB and your accessories are only USB, what is the problem?

If you want Firewire, you can get a PCMCIA card to give you Firewire support.

If You plan on doing some video editing then You would really wanna have Firewire. And to be honest I would always go with the laptop with most possibilities, simply for the fact that You can always buy a USB-hub if You need one plugs ;)

Firewire really is nice because it doesn't take any CPU resources, where USB does. However, for most things, USB will work fine.

Some ppls test the performance for USB(480mb/s) vs Firewire(400mb/s). Firewire have a stable transfer rate, whereas USB's transfer rate is up and down. If your loading data is big such as video or movie, probably firewire is a better choice. The firewire B can support up to 800mb/s, but another device still not support B version yet!!!
