    Hi,

I received the orphaned SDSA5JK SSD of my wife's dead Asus Zenbook Prime from SquareTrade, and am trying to figure out how to connect it up and (1) recover documents, and (2) use it as an external drive with another (Windows 7) laptop. Can anyone help?

So far, I have determined that it has a nonstandard pinout with 12 power and 6 data pins. The only candidate solution so far assumes the pinouts for ADATA and SanDisk versions of the SSD edge connector are compatible. It is a two-part solution:

    SSD to SATA:

Asus UX31-UX21 ADATA XM11 XM11ZZB5 SSD to 2.5" SATA Adapter

    SATA to USB 3.0:

USB 3.0 Kit with 2.5" SATA HDD Docking and Express Card

Has anyone successfully tried this combination? Any other ways to talk to this drive?

    Thanks in advance!

That's not a non-standard interface, it's just a different standard. It's called NGFF (Next Generation Form Factor), which is now officially known as "M.2" (which is even more cryptic than NGFF). It's a new SSD form factor for ultrabooks, tablets, and other compact devices.

You should be able to find any number of adapters if you search for M.2 or NGFF to SATA.
