So a window fan fell on my lovely laptop. Everything seems to work fine except that the screen looks shattered and therefore I can only see about 1/3 of it. One of the plastic hinge covers also broke off (I think this is just cosmetic though...).

    It's a Lenovo 3000v100. I called IBM and the part is $660. I found it on ebay for $236. Part # 13n7182

I'm not really tech savy, so I am wondering if is possible for a novice to change the screen? At $200-300 I would want to keep the computer. At $660 I would not (laptop cost me under $900 with maxed RAM).

Any suggestions? good online guides to this sort of repair?

    Thanks in advance!

Awww C'Mon...no Pics of the carnage? :(

Anyhow...IMO replacing a screen isn't that hard at all....takes some patience though. I suggest doing a test run w/ it right now...it's basically the backlight inverter cable connected to the screen to the MoBo if I remember correctly. So yea, I suggest getting it from ebay.

Replacing screens can be annoying, but it's a pretty straightforward task.

    shut your laptop off
dont use it with a broken screen.
A friend of mine broke his screen and he continued to use it, and the screen shorted the entire system out.
Just open the lcd bezel and unplug the screen from the inverter/motherboard. That way your screen will not short anything else.

Replaceing a screen is fairly simple. If you dont have the best memory, take pictures along the way and that will help guide you putting it back together.

Good luck fixing it, use an external screen for the time being, so the screen doesnt take anything else down with it.
