My boss is going to give me an 80 GB Intel SSD (yes, give me). I believe it's gen 1 if that matters. What I was wondering is since I'm already running a raid 0 using 2 of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822116039 and was wondering if I switched out one of them (after formatting of course) could I use one of my HDD along with the SSD, and if I could, would that even be a good idea taking into consideration fragmentation on the HDD and how SSD's hate to be defragged. Would I just be better off in the end using the SSD and 1 HDD as separate drives and maybe upgrade the HDD when I can. Oh yeah, before you say "keep those HDD's in the raid and install the SSD seperatly," I would but my D900T can only hold 2 drives or else I would.

Huh? I think you're trying to ask if you should put the HDD and SSD in raid, but it's not explicitly asked...

Anyway, if so, no. Run it as separate drives, SSD for your main programs/OS and HDD for data and maybe other programs you don't use as much if you feel that you don't have enough space in the SSD. Eventually you can upgrade to a more spacious drive.

Not a good idea to raid a HDD with a SSD. Use the SSD and HDD as separate drives, upgrade the HDD when you can.

K, ty. I kinda figured that was going to be the response, can't blame me for trying to get the best of both worlds

Most people would say non-RAID SSD and HDD _is_ the best of both worlds. :) You get the speed of the SSD for your applications, and the storage capacity of the HDD for your media.

I have a 60GB OCZ Agility SSD (with TRIM) and I converted my existing hard drive into my media hard drive with an external enclosure. It is the best of both worlds.
