If you are a handy person - family or friends know that you "fix" PCs, then this may strike a chord. Twice now I've been presented with the complaint that "Windows has gone wrong" - symptom, the laptop/desktop responds to keyboard usage in a random manner. A small test: plug in a spare USB based external keyboard. If all is OK then what your son/daughter/friend didn't tell you is that they accidentally spilled a sweet drink of some sort into the keyboard - not enough to get to the motherboard but sufficient to gum up the keyboard switch mechanisms. Remedy: replacement. A little tricky with laptops, but not impossible. There are various companies who will do it for you if you are not confident to DIY. Check out the forums for advice for your make/model. This has happened twice to me now - I've fixed them, extracted payment (clean your room) and strongly advised that they do not drink and eat over the keyboard. ..and of course they listen

    Hope this helps.
