I have a msi gt628. At home all the outlets are grounded so i never really noticed this until i went to a friends house or used the laptop (aluminium finish) with the power brick on a train. I feel a weird tingly sensation like static electricity and i know it is because the power outlets at my friends house are ungrounded. Question is, while strictly using the laptop, are there any real chances to damage components by plugging it in an ungrounded power outlet?

I want to say do not use the laptop in a thunderstorm.

I've had a screw connected to my hard disk give shocks occasionally. I suspect a short.
The plug is only two prongs and polarized. I think it is grounded somehow.
However: tingly sensation = bad.
That almost seems like a short somewhere. -
That's why it's grounded. You could try get one of those 'cheater plugs.'

I much prefer ungrounded power supplies because the mains cables are thinner and lighter to travel with. I've had the occasional tingles but have never encountered any damage to the hardware. The relative voltage across the components not changed, but the lack of grounding means that all the voltages can be floating above 0V.

Actually, the voltage is not the dangerous part.
High voltage can burn you, but even low amperage can kill you. -
If your laptop's power adapter is the ungrounded 2-prong sort, I wouldn't worry about it.
-
Is the adapter getting hot?
As for ungrounded outlets, many outlets are ungrounded, they just look like they are. I wouldn't worry about that. -
Tnaks for everybodys input. In the meantime i found this: http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/direct2dell/archive/2007/04/24/8522.aspx
So i guess i don't have anything to worry about. -
When I was at my local wally world a couple weeks ago, I was checking out the laptops there for fun, and got to see an HP DM3 in person (nice looking machine btw). I reached out to touch it and feel the metal chassis, and it zapped me.
Guess they too are running ungrounded plugs.
Ungrounded power outlet!
