The HDD in the Dell in my sig normally idles in the low 40s, but in the last few days it now idles in the low 50s. HD Tune says it is okay, but I'm no expert in SMART readings. Do you think the temp sensor is messed up, or should I start cloning my HDD and preparing to get a new one?

Your drive looks like it is performing well from the categories which are read properly by hdtune.
54C is kinda hot, Make sure that any processes running in the background are kept to a minimum to decrease harddrive usage. That will keep the harddrive temperatures lower

Thanks for the info. It's sitting at 47 now, I wonder if the recent hot weather here has something to do with the temps? Still, going from 20 to 25 degrees ambient temperature shouldn't affect it that much, although the cooling design for this laptop is TERRIBLE.
Update: 51 degrees now. I'll just have to wait till the weather cools down to see if I really have a problem.
Unusually hot HDD
