I'm considering purchasing an X25-M. It's an OEM unit, ie. pulled out of a Lenovo, HP, etc machine. Is it possible to update the firmware in a drive like this with Intel's tool if it doesn't have latest 02M3 firmware?

If you are talking about Intel Toolbox...you should probably have no problem. I have the 320 series and toolbox flashed it on my HP Envy 17. If it doesn't work, then you will have to download the bootable .iso and flash in SATA mode, not AHCI. Either way...pretty simple

I'm asking since it's a manufacturer OEM drive whether I'll have to install firmware provided by the oem manufacturer (HP, Lenovo, Dell, etc) or whether firmware off the Intel site will work.

Both of my drives are OEM. The X-25 was updated using a bootable disk. The 320 Series was updated through Intel Toolbox. I am sure the first could have been done the same way, but at the time, I was unaware of Intel Toolbox. Each version of toolbox contains the updated firmwares to flash. OEM or not, it is Intel.

Side note. HP released another firmware after the last Intel. I cannot flash it using the HP flasher. It fails every time, so I have the latest Intel...

Thanks for your feedback. What are the model numbers of your drives?

I no longer have the 160 GB X-25, since my original HP Envy 17 has been replaced...so I cannot tell you the model. According to device manager the 300 GB 320 Series is: SSDA2BW300G3H

Intel Toolbox recognizes it simply as a 320 Series 300 GB SSD
