I have an Inspiron 1520 with a 1280x800 resolution that is just way too low for my needs. I was considering upgrading the screen to a WUXGA (1920X1200) screen from online. I noticed you can buy them, but all of the sites say that you should make sure to get the same resolution as the original screen. Is there a reason to this? My laptop has the 8600m gt, so it should handle the higher res, unless there is a different issue. Although if iirc, the highest res offered when i bought it was 1680x1050, but these sites say it works on inspiron 1520...

And if it is possible, does anyone have a recommended site that is reliable to buy a replacement screen?

PS. It seems like a lot of people on the internet like to threadcrap on topics about screen resolution. So i'll squash those now: Yes, i have seen it in real life, and yes I LOVE that res on that size monitor.

There's a relevant thread in the MSI forum that you might want to glance through. Good luck.

IDK if it uses the same connect, but a Dell Inspiron XPS 9100 screen might work.

Do you guys have any feelings one way or another towards laptop screen sellers on ebay? Most of the people on ebay that list an inspiron 1520 wuxga sxreen have good ratings and are top rated sellers. Supposedly screentek is a good place for laptop screens, but they only sell 1680x1050, and it is $310.

How likely do you guys think it is that the ebay screens will work? Like i said before, 1920x1200 wasnt even an option when i was buying it (only 1680x1050). I don't want to wast my money buying something that wont work.

    EDIT: Ebay search link:

Hi, I'm not sure if 1920x1200 is an option for 15.5" screens....
Yes, you will have to fork out a lot of green. Is an external monitor out of the question?

    Anyway, I found this:
New Philips LP154WU1 15.4 Laptop Screen WUXGA 1920X1200

There's some information down below, perhaps you should email the supplier, who offers fitting... all together under USD300

This guy is from Australia though... shipping might cost you

Fishticks, in my post above i listed the ebay search link i used. there are a decent amount of people who sell what i want (15.4" 1920x1200 for inspiron 1520), i just want to know your guy's opinion on whether it will work or not, and if i should trust those people on ebay.

Also, this is strictly a laptop screen im after, as i already have a 2560x1600 30" monitor and 2 x 22" 1680x1050 monitors hooked up to my desktop. I've put up with this laptop's horrible res for too long. (i bought it before i truly understood the difference)

My laptops current lcd connector is a foxconn DD0FM5LC200 if that helps determine compatability at all.

If they have lots of good feedback, I'd buy from them. IDK if there's a best screen seller. Laptop Aid, Screen Aid, Screensusa, are all good. I've bought from all of them.

Last night before going to bed i decided to buy this:
    SAMSUNG 15.4 WUXGA LCD INSPIRON 1520 & 1525

Hopefully i get lucky and it works. If it does it'll be the best $140 i spent in a long time, lol. I'll definitely post back my results when i get it next week.

So i got the screen today. Had some problems with USPS, but thats another story, lol. I plugged it in and it works! It does seem a bit grainy (it is samsung after all) but i'll prolly get used to it. The res is really nice.
