I would like to know what is possible for upgrading the CPU on a Gateway MX6426 laptop.

    Existing:

    CPU - AMD Turion 64 Mobile ML-40 2.2Ghz

    Motherboard - Blade-K8 UMA MBD w/ATI RS482M w/1394

Memory - 1 Ghz (upgradeable to 2Ghz maximum)

I was hoping for a greater speed dual core, for Vista and Windows 7 at some point.

    Thanks for the help.

I am almost 100% sure that your system will only work with single core Turion processors.

Yeah, a CPU upgrade won't work. Turion X2s use Socket S1, whereas the Lancasters used Socket 754....

And max memory is 2GB DDR-333.

You could upgrade the HDD, since that would give a good boost in performance over the stock one. You could check out the 160GB Samsung HM160HC, which is the fastest PATA HDD available, and is pretty cheap as well. (I don't think 48-bit LBA should be a problem)
