I am looking to upgrade my hard drive on the Vostro 1500 and I don't want to order from Newegg because I do that every time and this time I don't feel like waiting I just want to pick it up and throw it in my lappy so whats a compatible hard drive for my laptop that runs at 7200RPM from best buy?

Maybe one of these Hitachi hard drives?
Hard Drive size is not that important...I want at the least 120GB
Thanks I really appreciate your help
-
Any 2.5 inch SATA hard disk drive should work. Hitachi and Seagate are the best hard disk drive manufacturers.
-
Okay cool. I'm going to pick up one today at Best Buy
My 4GB of memory comes today form newegg !
-
What memory upgrade did you get for your Vostro?
-
Any 2 x 2Gb package of DDR2 Pc5300 sodimm laptop memory will work in the Vostro 1500.
Good luck with the upgrade

Does this one work with the Vostro 1500? -
Yes, the Hitachi 7K200 will work with your laptop.

Here is a better deal.. looking into it my self it is 5400rpm but will run faster then any 7200 rpm mobile drive

would save 80$ though for the wait

I agree, but. Also until someone touches it I am skeptical. I know WD owns that company what simpiltech? But is it the same? Let us see how it goes I have seen stranger. Like my computer came with a 4200 HDD but it is really a 5400 HDD. And I believe Best Buy was selling 160GB HDD w/16MB cache saying they were 8MB.

External? I want an internal one to replace this small 80 gb drive I have that Dell gave me
-
bmwm3oz : please learn to read.. the thread specifies that if you take out the hd out of the enclosure toss that in your Vostro then put your old hd in there >.<

Which one would be better I'm going to pick one up today
Last time I'm ever posting in this thread =P -
Wait nevermind. I don't want that 5400RPM one. I want a 7200RPM
Does that 7200 work/ -
That's pretty expensive. Look at Newegg for Hitachi if you feel comfortable buying from them: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...7776&name=Hitachi+Global+Storage+Technologies
Maybe even a Seagate? They are good too. 200GB for 149.99$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148307 -
Yeah I am I just wanted to get everything done with today.
Hey question-How do I fully transfer everything on this laptop 80GB hardrive to my new one when I only have on drive? I downloaded Acronis True Image but the instructions and FAQ are terrible.
Can you really just copy the entire hard drive to the new one using this software? -
I'm sure you can, but I've never done it, so I can't help you with that.
Check the Seagate link I gave you above. -
cool thanks Im going to go with the 320 GB on newegg for 150
-
Good choice, the 320gb 5400rpm drives are really fast

I am only not sure of the physical dimensions

thnx -
They will physically fit, but there is one problem you run into. You do not know whether the 250gb drive is ata or SATA. The 320gb is only offered in SATA, so you know that that one is a SATA drive, which will work with your laptop.
However, the 250gb drive comes in ATA and SATA flavors, so if you choose that drive, the luck of the draw can only tell you which interface it uses.
Its most likely a SATA one, but you cannot be sure.

thanks man ... I will choose the toshiba drive ,,,,
WD website is useless ,, wasting 5 min looking around,, I couldn't determine if that was a SATA or not
while on toshiba's .. it was much easier ,, 1 min on the product specs page ,, and another min on the phone.
