Hello Everyone,
I was looking into buying a new laptop, but I am on some what of a budget. I have noticed that people have been upgrading processors on their laptops.
I have a dell m1330, with T5450 1.67 processor.
So my question is...what should I look for when trying to Upgrade my processor. I noticed the P-Sockets, is there anything else.
I have found that some one upgraded similar settiings to mine to a T9300 processor, Is this possible?
I also wanted to to upgrade to a 500gb HDD 7200rpm and to 4gb RAM.
Any ideas on what RAM I should use, I hear OCZ is good, this is what I found so far -
OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model OCZ2M8004GK - Retail
Thanks for the help,

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
The M1330 will be able to the T9300 as well as the T9500. Any 800MHz FSB Socket P processor should work (not sure about Extremes, though). Your selected memory is fine as well, but it will only run at 667MHz. Not that you'll feel a difference, though...

My m1330 originally came with a T5450. I upgraded to a T8300 and noticed a big difference.
I replaced a 1GB SO-DIMM wit h a Kingston 2GB SO-DIMM to give me 3GB. I use Vista 32-bit so going to 4GB would be a waste.
I also upgraded to a Hitachi 5400 rpm 500GB drive and it's fast enough. -
Thanks for your quick replies.
As for the RAM, I have heard people online mentioning that going to 4gb of RAM is pointless also, but some have mentioned that even with the 32 bit Vista that some have been reading up to 3.5gb of RAM and others say that even though its not read it still uses the whole 4gb, but not too sure how that would work out lol.
Any other requirements you know that I will have to do like add programs or apps after I install the processor???
Also thanks 'Commander Wolf' I thought the fastest was the T9300
Thanks again -
Most people don't need more than 3-4 GB of memory. If you want to utilize that amount and more, go to Vista 64-bit since 32-bit is limited to 4GB (it can read the whole amount, but you cannot use it all since some of that amount is needed for memory addresses).

I have 4GB in my laptop, 3.5GB usable. For me, 4GB was worth it because I get the benefit of dual channel as well as having an extra 512MB usable. For RAM gluttons like photoshop it's worth it.
-
So does this mean that 3.5 is used for RAM and the 512mb is dedicated to things like photoshop or is it more like you use only up to 3.5 and the 312mb will come out of the 3.5??? -
The reason you don't get the full 4GB with a 32-bit OS is due to a limitation of physical address space. Unfortunately, your computer also needs the address space for graphics cards, harddrives, BIOS, and other PCI expansion devices. After those devices have been addressed, a 32-bit OS doesn't have enough addresses left for full 4GB of memory.
So, the ~512MB of memory that isn't recognized by the OS is just that -- the OS doesn't even know it exists. It's not being used at all.
However, the memory is still there and can be taken advantage of with a 64-bit OS. If you're pretty sure you won't be upgrading to 64-bit then, yes, this memory is "wasted". (FYI, apparently the next OS after Win7 will be 64-bit only). -
ahh ok thanks, that clears everything up for me. haha.
Thanks everyone for your help
