When I first ordered my DV2000z in July, I tried to upgrade the RAM right away. I bought 2 sticks of 1Gb RAM of each of these brands. The G.Skill did not work, my computer would boot to OS and then restart after about 30 seconds. I used Neweggs wonderful return policy to pick up some Crucial RAM. With the Crucial the computer could just barely load windows before restarting.

    G.Skill

I left a post on Crucial's forum about the issue and a tech said that some manufacturers do something to make the end user use their brand RAM. Well, after 6 months, I hope someone figured it out.

What RAM have people used to upgrade their laptops?

Kingston, Corsair, Crucial and OCZ are all popular and reputable brands. I have used Kingston, and had no issues at all.

This is the problem though, I have used Crucial already and both sticks would not work with my laptop. Neither of the G.Skill sticks worked either. Both sets, the computer would just barely make it to the OS before restarting and be stuck in the loop.

I need some people who have a DV2000 (preferably AMD) and successfully run 1 - 2 GB of some non-HP sticks. What manufacturers work?

Someone, somewhere MUST have a DV2000 with aftermarket RAM installed. I need to know how to go about NOT spending $360 for Dell Ram.

First of all you have to buy the correct memory sticks' specifications (speed, voltage). The two sticks has to be the same configuration also. I used the Kingston brand. PNY is good too.

The two sticks have to have the same specifications only if you want dual channel to work. I wouldn't mind disabling dual channel in exchange for 2gb of RAM.
Shogun, post this in HP's forum where many people with dv2000z write. What I can suggest is DDR2 667mhz, Crucial. I see you had problems with Curcial but this tends to be the most compatible RAM for AMD CPUs, which are quite picky. Next, should be Kingston.

I have the dv2000nr with amd turion x2. I have 2 gb of ram. I went to www.cdwg.com and chose memory. I used the crucial memory finder and my ram works perfect. Your issues may be with the computer itself.
