It is a Dual Core CPU, anyone know which (if any) Core 2 Duo may be used to upgrade?

The T2400, T2500 and T2600 should work with no problems.

For the T7200, T7400 and T7600 this will depend on your laptop's chipset and BIOS version.

Post your laptop name and specs and the experts in the forum will tell you if you can move upto the T7x00 series.

Thanks, it is my daughter's Toshiba Satellite A135-S2276:

    OS:
    • Vista Home Basic 32-bit version

    Processor and Chipset:
    • Intel® Pentium® dual-core processor T2060 1.60GHz, 1MB L2, 533MHz FSB
    • ATI RADEON® XPRESS 200M Chipset

    Memory:
    • 2 x 1GB PC4200 memory modules

    Hard Disk Drive:
    • 80GB (5400 RPM) Serial-ATA (SATA) hard disk drive

    Graphics:
    • ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X200M 128MB dynamically allocated
    shared graphics memory

It was a good deal a year ago at $549; I increased the RAM to 2GB and did a fresh reinstall of Vista.

The ATI X200M chipset supports the T7200, T7400 and T7600.

The T7600 is too expensive. Do you realy need the uprade? For every day applications/software such as internet, emails word, skype, the upgrade wont make any difference

If you realy insist in doing the upgrade, I will recommond the T7200

    P.S.
You may need a bios upgrade.

Andy I have this chipset in my gateway and I'm more than sure that it will support the T7200 (core 2 duo). Few in the Gateway forum at notebookforms.com have done the upgrade (from both pentium duo core 20xx and celeron M 4xx).

The X200M support both the 533 and 667 mhz FSB. I upraded my laptop to a T2500 which has an FSB of 667mhz (166mhz effective)

I think this chipset accept even 800mhz FSB. Someone at the ocforums has pin modded a T7200 in his gatway MT3705 laptop to run @ 2.4Ghz instead of 2Ghz.
If only I can find what BSEL mod he used? Or is his sticker a lie?
His/her name MikeyLikesItSI and the link for sticker is here http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=478089

My daughter is happy with it; I was just wondering if it is possible and, if so, what processor(s) would work. So far, upgrading the RAM to 2GB and the fresh install of Vista has really perked up the system.

As I said earlier the T7x00 processors tend to be expensive. For example the T7600 cost over $600 in newegg and $364 in ebay.

    Hi guys,

I have the same CPU in my HP DV2205ea which has:

    NorthBridge : Intel i945GM/GME
    SouthBridge : 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller
FSB Frequency : 532 MHz (QDR)
FSB max. Support : 667 MHz

Are my upgrade options the same/better/worse than the OP's?

    TIA

    nedge2k,
your system has a i945PM, so you can install any socket M processor.
    If you have a T2060, good upgrades are the (core duo: T2400, T2500, T2600, T2700) (core 2 duo: T5300, T5500, T5600, T7200, T7400, T7600)
Please note that the core 2 duo processors are faster per MHz clock speed than the core duo chips. So a T2700 at 2.33GHz is a much slower processor than the T7600 at 2.33GHz.

...am I right in thinking that if I went for one of the T7xxx CPU's, I'd have to upgrade my RAM? The RAM currently is PC2-5300 333Mhz (DDR2-667).

The T7250 looks ideal but if it means buying more RAM, i think i'd go for the T5750.

    Thoughts?

EDIT: T7250 would be ideal...if my board supported 800Mhz FSB (doh!). Looks like T5750 it is then...

EDIT2: Just found this CPU guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=166906 - I can use a T7xxx but only 200/400/600...which is what K-TRON said anyway! Sorry! :p

The T7250, and T5750 are socket P processors. They will not work in your laptops.

The T7200, T7400 and T7600 have a native 667MHz FSB, so if you have 667MHz memory, you are good to go.

A side note, the T7600 is a rip off unless you can get an amazing deal. The T7400 is like 95% of the speed of the T7600, and its like 1/3 of the price
The T7200 and T7400 are ideal

Before you upgrade the cpu, you should upgrade the BIOS to the latest revision. You will need to go to the manufacturers website to see if any bios upgrades are available for download

    Cool, cheers dude :)

What are your thoughts on the T5750? It's about half the price of the T7400 but at the same time has half the L2C. Is the extra 2MB worth it?

EDIT: Actually, scratch that, the T5750 doesn't seem to support VT, which rules it out totally. the T5600 does but again, 2MB L2C and only 1.83MHz.

    Cheers dude, think I'll prolly go with the 5600 then...unless I find a 7400 at a good price ;)

...now to find a HDD that doesn't run so hot!

Hehe, i hope you guys get as lucky as i did, getting a T7600 for ~$100 from some stupid **** that bought it for $800, was only tested for a couple of hourse, don't know why he sold it so darn cheap :D

I have a cheap T5600 laying around that was the CPU i upgraded from, though the T7600 wasn't that much faster it was still worth the $100 i gave for it :)

Time to wake this thread up!

I've got an Acer 5610Z, with a T2060 part. Acer documentation says T2060, with 943GML chipset.

CPU-Z (1.53) says Acer Grapevine mobo, with i943/940GML, 82801GHM southbridge, and 945GM graphics subsystem. Oddly, v1.51 of CPU-Z identified this part as a T2060 (which is what it is supposed to be). DXDIAG shows the CPU as a T2060.

Other programs have identified the chipset as a 945 variant, but I believe that's erroneous, since I have seen threads talking about where certain drivers will report incorrect (?) data.

I used to pay attention to this stuff, and at one time could do this myself, but I no longer can with the "chipset and processor of the month" product cycle we have evolved into.

I'd like to upgrade this CPU, and I am just hopelessly confused as to what I might get.

I _think_ the FSB is limited to 533 MHz on this puppy, but I am not sure. If it is not, I'd love to get into a higher B/W part.

Can someone please help with upgrade choices and perhaps explain a bit? I would like to get a couple of more years out of this puppy, and a new CPU would be just the prescription.

    Thanks, everyone!

Mr Pink, this model is not very popular in this forum mainly not many members own this, few unlucky fellows like us have to guess and gather info by reading many threads.
I do own very same model as yours and I was contemplating an upgrade of my CPU which is same as yours but for the time being I have given up on that. However I have upgraded my memory to max 2GB and upgraded the HDD to 250GB and there is a slight improvement. From what I gathered over here,I found out T7200 is the best choice for me to replace my T2060 but it's power consumption is 34W and my current cpu's power consumption is 31W therefore I think I may end up with higher Temperature, T5600 also will give me slight improvement but not worth the hassle. I'll wait for the SSD prices to drop and hopefully get a bargain.

If you undervolt the new CPU, it will still run cooler than the old one did stock, even with the higher TDP.
