    Hi everyone,
I apologize if this is a repeat thread. I have searched the threads for 2 hours to try and collect information on this topic. I am curious if anyone has upgraded a Dell XPS M170 Pentium M processor to a newer Core 2 Duo. I ask this because I ran into this link.

    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=86134-1&prodlist=shopping

I did some research and it looks compatible with the socket that is currently in it. I have not taken apart the notebook to see if the processor is a pin grid array or ball grid array. If anyone has done this please let me know. I am planning on selling the notebook soon becuase the processor is not the best a multi-tasking. However, if the upgrade is possible I might try it out. Thanks for all your help.

You will not be able to upgrade it. They use different chipsets and pin outs for both platforms.

It has the same number of pins (so it appears compatible), but the pin layout is not the same.
