I have a HP pavilion g6 laptop with the above cpu and I would like to upgrade it. The highest available option that HP seems to suggest is the i7 3632QM but I would like to put something like the 3630qm or higher. Will the higher tdp value have a problem? My laptops runs at 70-74c temperatures using Prime95. and it's maximum setting.

Theoretically you can go up till 3940xm. Just make sure your PSU provides enough wattage.

Everything below 55w should be fine with your current PSU.

My current cpu runs at 35 tdp. Wouldn't something like the 3920xm be to high as far as tdp goes?My laptop is an HP Pavilion G6 2221ev. It has a G2 rpga988b socket if I'm not mistaken.

The BIOS might not have the microcode for 3940XM and your laptop won't be able to cool it properly... I would get something like the 3630QM at most...

@TomJGX is right! You would gain no benefits of using a XM-Proc in your Pavilion. You would have more TDP-Output, more heat and it is not likely that your PSU is enough for that. A XM-Proc is meant to be oc'ed not bent to a dog lead.

Grab a cheaper 36/37..qm Proc which will serve you well! ;)

3612/3632QM for the lower TDP :) it's a single fan design so dont push it too hard by using a high tdp cpu :)
