Hi everyone, i got a cuestion here, can i upgrade the Celeron M530 processor from an LG R405 laptop to a Core 2 Duo T725?

i've noticed that the laptop where the C2D processor came from has an PGA479M socket (i got the processor from a Sony vaio vgne cr220e), i been searching through half internet for the lg procesor socket founding nothing so far...

So, what you people think? can it happen?

Where the CPU came from, while interesting is of no point to us. Can you run CPU-Z? I only say because it may be faster than me researching? I want to know your chipset first a foremost.

Edit: Oh and welcome to NBR, nice to have you here.

Looks like it might work. You need to double check your chipset whether it's the PM965 chipset, I was able to find specs on the R405, but you need to confirm this. Use CPU-z .

If it is, it will work fine. You might need to update the BIOS for it to work, I'm not sure of where I can find that for an LG system.

That my friend means you can upgrade away! Unless BIOS limitations you can knock your socks off!

Just want to know what GPU?

Celeron M 530 is based of fthe Merom Core 2 Duo cpu, but it is just single core 1.73ghz and 1mb cache(no speed step), depending on the chipset you should be able to upgrade it to a 533fsb Core 2 Duo like the T5200.

I just purchased a gateway notebook with a Celeron M 520 and upgraded it to a Core 2 Duo T7200, it had an ati chipset though not intel,

Celeron M 530 kinda comes in both versions (Socket M and P).
The OP's notebook shows up with the GM/PM 965 (GPU integrated/dedicated?), so as PP said, he should be able to upgrade to a higher socket P Merom or Penryn, only if the BIOS supports it.
    LG R405 with T7100/T7700.

Thank you all people, the upgrade, was a success!!! :D , now the LG notebook is running with a Core 2 Duo, despite some opinions from some friends...

The motherboard and socket (PGA479M) of both Notebooks are the same, so the change was made without trouble...

Thanks everybody again for the tips, orientation and the support...
