Intel Core Duo T2400 Yonah, Socket 479

    HP DV1000.
    Chipset: i945gm
    Bios: 1/12/2007

Whats the next best upgrade from this CPU? I would like a 2+Ghz duo core or so. My current CPU can't even handle a Vista 64bit.

If the BIOS supports the Merom Core 2 Duos, you can try out the T7200/T7400....

What do you use your laptop for?

In every day applications you won't notice a difference from a CPU upgrade. Unless you're using heavy applications such as 3D, CAD, image or video editing you're better off saving your money, or spending it in a faster harddrive and more ram.

Unless your planning to use more than 4GB ram, which is overkill, moving to Vista 64bit won't be different from using vista 32bit

I have a DV1000, can't I just go on HP website and download a bios from like a DV2700t? For the latest bios? They are basically the same laptop, but I have XP and the DV2700t has Vista.

    Anyone?

No, you can't ugrade the bios because the motherboards in both systems are different

If I'm you I would upgrade RAM and HDD. the T2400 runs at 1.86ghz. The T7200 runs @ 2ghz. So unless you attend to go fo the T7600 (2.33ghz) which is as expensive as a new laptop, you won't notice the difference between before and after the CPU upgrade.

The only time when you'll appreciate the boost in performance is when you do 3D, photop or video editing.
