I have a macbook and I am planning to upgrade it with this sata II ssd (only sata II as my laptop has problems when sata III drives are connected):

    NEW SAMSUNG 256GB SSD 2.5" READ 250 MB/S WRITE 220 MB/S SATA II 3.0GBPS | eBay

    It is a 256gb Samsung 470 SSD.

    The ebay page states:
Will this be fully compatible with my laptop even though it states as only being made 'for dell?' Could there be firmware installed on it that locks its use to dell laptops or something along those lines?

    Help !

    Thanks :)

While i don't have first hand experience, i don't see a problem. I never heard of Dell locking hardware. However, given the price, why not look for other options, that SSD is seriously expensive, even compared to 256GB SATA 6Gbps SSDs.

imo, trying to get two of the most locked down examples of PC's working together is asking for trouble.

Dell doesn't lock down hardware? (Has for over a decade ime...).

Apple is compatible with anything? (Come on... you know the answer to this...).

Ok, when i said hardware, i meant the most common stuff, drives, RAM, wireless adapters. I'm not talking about GPUs here...

Either am I: putting a Dell firmware'd SSD into an Apple computer is a form of insanity...

I thought the firmware wasn't Dell's and that the SSD is only a rebrand, but if it is Dell custom firmware, then you're right, it would be insanity.

I agree with tijo, it's too expensive, look around for cheaper alternative.
