Why not? It is a MXM 3 B card. MSIs have had Clevo cards in them before.

The thing that is going to kick you in the cojones is that the chip is 100w tdp vs your 5850 which is only 39w.

You will most likely have cooling solution and power supply problems. Even if you find a proper power supply to replace the one you have there might be some internal components that are not specced for a 3x increase in draw under load.

^ True. The 6990m wasn't exactly known for its low temps.

    5850M is only 39W !!? I didn:t know that! Impressive if true.

OP you are better off upgrading to the 770M GTX. 75W out of the box and once undervolted very low power like the 5850M

I think it's more safe upgrading with another ati graphic card, also the 7970m goes very well, but a little heatsink mod is required.

There were posts that people had very good success with 670mx where temperatures where in fact lower than 5850. THis is the upgrade I will do in the future,
Do you know if 770m will work?

There have been many failures of the 6990m cards in sagers after about a year or so of usage . You may want to check the msi forums first before you continue.
