Hello all,
i have a Acer aspire 5920 with a processor T7300, 3gb of ram and a disk sata with 220 gb.
It is getting very slow.
What upgrades can i do in order to boost its performance?
Many thanx

Time to upgrade to a more current platform (any more current platform, that is Intel based...). That over 9 year old system was on it's last legs when Arrandale was announced 6 years ago.
Yeah, you can put in an SSD. But the excitement will last all of 5 minutes when you realize that it's 'performance' isn't any better, even if it seems a little more 'snappy'.Kent T likes this. -
Well not exactly, but the money involved would make much more sense to be put in newer machine. I've upgraded all of my 5920G's internals a few times over, so it was always relatively contemporary, but I eventually left it 3 years ago. If the person got that far with the hardware in his machine, he'll greatly appreciate an SSD and maybe CPU bump. RAM is prohibitively expensive. The 4GB sticks were expensive back in the day, they still are. It's just that now for the same amount of money you'll spend on 8GB kit, you can get 16GB kit DDR3 (which is incompatible with your system). Honestly though, a newer machine would make more sense, even if you want to keep the aspect ratio. There are quite a few newer 16:10 machines out there.

What cpu can i use to upgrade?

T9300 and T9500 would work fine, X9000 might be on the hot side, X9100 E0 requires socket mod and is RARE, not to mention expensive. There are quite a few topics, mine including, so search around. My signature's "Full specs and other toys" would help you to get most of the info you need.

Starlight5 Yes, I'm a cat. What else is there to say, really?
@Artur Furet I would advise against it, but if you're dead-set on doing so - as @triturbo told T9300/T9500, and add some cheap 256GB MLC SSD (e.g. Netac or Wave mSATA with 2.5" adapter, there are other options too, maybe just pick something used). Keep the RAM at 3GB, use 32-bit os. It won't be slow in most tasks anymore.

What TriTurbo said, also 8gb of ddr2 sodimm ram and an SSD will help. also if you have vista win 7 will be faster. also if you specially customize the setup and do a lot of tweaking win 10 can be even faster than 7. (easy and there are guides on youtube)
EDIT: though for cheap you can get like a pentium or i3 laptop and maybe an ssd. cause 4gb sodimms are like $40 to $60 USD a pop. and the CPUs TriTurbo mentions are like $25 USD. I got my XPS M1330s for free but, they work well for web surfing and light gaming on 7 and 10. -
if it is the 5920G and not the 5920 you can also upgrade your GPU, as far as nvidia 330M or 240M
Upgrade my Acer aspire 5920
