Adunno if HP whitelists CPU's. Only real upgrade is to like an Phenom II X4 N970, can't seem to find any on Ebay. You should be able to go to any AMD S1G4 socket CPU's. I upgraded my brother's Dell Inspiron M5030 from a Sempron V160 to a Phenom II N620 dual core no issues.

You could get a P960, but it costs almost $300, and is only slightly faster than your current processor.

    Passmark:

    P920: 1979
    P960: 2160

Better to save that money and simply purchase a whole new laptop. With what you'd have to spend for any noticeable upgrade, you'd be halfway, if not more, toward a better replacement.

In the US (approximate pricing), $500 will buy you an i3 17" machine, $600 will get you an i5 17", both machines coming with a warranty of at least a full year.

Just about any working laptop will sell for at least $200 on ebay, often more.

In the face of those prices, spending any significant money on a cpu upgrade isn't wise.

You guys are pretty lame, and unimaginative.

I don't mean to be insulting, but its pretty inconsiderate to suggest buying a new laptop as if its the only viable option. People like their laptops, not because of the specs but because they rely on them and they are used to them.

...Especially when you're wrong. Do some goddarn decent research for once, don't act you know something about AMD when A. few people do B. the quantity of AMD laptops you've touched is a fraction the intel laptops you've owned.
So anyway the lame part is that he may have actually believed you all because none of you LOOK like you would give misinformation. Oh and some people (even noobs) might want to upgrade their laptop for fun.
Sorry guys, end rant. But seriously, say what you're saying in less words or not at all and say it while asking if they are doing it for fun.
...Unless all of the CPUs I've posted are incompatible (then you can hit me over the head)...

**Here are some viable, affordable upgrades for your laptop, good sir.**
The first 2 have less than 4 cores. They will be faster than the quads for applications that are not multithreaded.

    AMD Phenom II Dual-Core Mobile Processor N660 HMN660DCR23GM CPU S1 3.0GHZ 2MB L2 | eBay
    AMD Phenom II x3 N830 2.1GHz 1.5MB s1 LP HMN830DCR32GM | eBay
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Phenom-...007?pt=CPUs&hash=item3a6a7527f7#ht_500wt_1413

The best priced one is also the best compromise, being triple core. However, its only marginally faster in speed than the quad core I posted.

    Good luck!
