Recently I upgraded my CPU in my D600 form a 1.4G Barnia to a 1.6G Dothan. Everything operates smoothly.
I read somewhere that the D600 can reach a max speed of 1.7G. I would like to upgrade the CPU at a later stage to a 2.0G or 2.1G(@400M FSB) Dothan. My question is will the D600 work at this speed?
Those who has direct experience/knowledge please comment.
Thanks..

Moved to the right section.
It seems that there exists such a CPU - in the 400MHz FSB:

But you should first make sure that it's compatible with your laptop (the BIOS supports it)
And It's not really worth the price - seeing the price there - I think it's waaay better to get a new laptop at that stage. -
I will upgrade later this year or early next when the price will drop to maybe about $50-70 by then.

No one here has any info, I am a little surprise, I suppose most visitors here tend to buy NEW laptops instead of upgrading old ones.
The current 2nd hand 2.0 or 2.1 Ghz Dothan is sold in Ebay for about $170-$200. I envisage it will drop to about $50/$70-$100 in the next 6-12 months. It's time to buy then. I believe with 2.1Ghz on D600 the super Pi time would be around 1 min 36sec compared to 59 sec from a 2Ghz, Intel 2 duo core current laptop models like T61 or D630. I can live with that. -
True, most people here would buy a newer laptop than upgrade the cpu on older units. I upgraded my daughter's cpu from a celeron 1.5ghz to dothan 1.6ghz without a problem. That was about 3 months ago and the 2.0ghz dothan were selling at a very high price back then, and it doesn't seem they have gone down much either. Make sure you bios supports the upgrade, my daughter's toshiba will only support to 1.8ghz dothan.
Another suggestion to help with performance/longevity is to max out the memory and get a faster HD, assuming you haven't already done that. I feel, spending upwards to a $100 for a dothan cpu, could be better used toward a new laptop. There are some great deals out there these days. -
Skibums,
thanks, understood...
fast HD is not cheap either eg 80G HD at 7200rpm is about US$110-$130.more memory does not increase speed unless one opens many windows, play games or use Vista, I don't use any of them.
one consideration use money to buy 2nd hand intel core duo based laptop and upgrade to core 2 duo, by then there will be many of them in the market.
Question: can most core duo laptops runs using on core 2 duo cpu?
