    I have a pentium m 740 now, I believe it's socket 479
so what's CPUs can I upgrade to?
let's say if I upgrade to a 760, would there be any noticeable difference?

what motherboard chipset do you have?
I believe you have a 910/915 chipset which unfortunately doesn't take any of the dual core cpu's so you're stick with the Dothan line basically. Highest i believe was a 780 (2.26Ghz).

I would say to just hang on to your 740 and wait until you collect the cash to move to a dual-core laptop. Probably not worth the cash spent to make the jump to the 750/760, and I'm guessing that any processor above the 760 will cost more than it's worth right now.

The Pentium M 780 is indeed the fastest thing you can put into a Socket M machine. They're currently going for about $150 on ebay, and will give you a 500MHz speed boost.

Personally, I don't think the 500MHz boost in clock speed is worth the money, but there are people paying $150 for a 200MHz upgrade from a T7300 to a T7500, so you never know...
