    My sister bought a ThinkPad T60 (2007-AY6) for my mom for Christmas w/o consultation. Now I'm wondering how far we can upgrade the processor, not wanting her first laptop experience to be a slow, painful one. Here are the specs she shared:

    IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T60 Wireless Laptop
    Manufacturer: IBM/Lenovo
    Model: ThinkPad T60 (2007-AY6)

    * 14.1 TFT LCD Display
    * ATI Radeon X1300 64MB 3D Video Card
    * Internal 802.11abg Wireless
    * DVD±RW Multi-Recorder Drive
    * 1GB RAM For Ultra Fast Performance
    * Massive 60GB Hard Drive
    * Intel CoreDuo Dual Core CPU

    Best thing you can get is a T7600. I'd recommend something more on the lines of the T7200 or maybe T7400 if you can find one cheap. What is the current CPU?

    With an (assumed) 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo inside, I wouldn't bother upgrading the CPU.

    You need to install Win7, at least 2GB RAM and install a current HD into that system.

    The best HD you can get right now is a Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid followed closely by a Hitachi 7K500.

    The best version of Win7 is the 64bit version.

    The optimum RAM with Win7x64 is 4GB for your system.

    These upgrades will make the CPU upgrade look extremely unsatisfying - performance to $$$ - wise.

    As will simply selling/returning this system and putting any money for an upgrade into a newer, more current platform/computer.

    I too am curious what the CPU is in this particular case.
