I bought this well.. b/c I was early inline and got a killer deal. I am honestly not a laptop user. I build networks work w/ servers etc.. etc..

I would like to upgrade this laptop to whatever is pretty much capable of. I'm sorry for having limited to knowledge of laptops.

I would first obviously like to upgrade memory b/c of the mere 1gb of ram being used on a vista machine. limitations say 2gb .. first question is.. can I put in 1 gb ram chip in 1 slot.. and be done w/ it.

    or .. do I have to use 2x 1gb ram. Also am I bound to the 4200 SO-DIMM 533mhz?

any other possibly upgrades would be nice to consider. I'll probably give it to my g/f eventually or sell it in a year when I get a performance laptop.

If there are two RAM slots and you have a 1GB DIMM in one of them, yes, upgrading will be as easy as putting a second 1GB DIMM in the second slot. In the case that your existing RAM is 2x 512MB or 1x 1GB (in one slot), you'll need to get 2x 1GB or 1x 2GB, respectively.

You can use pretty much any DDR2 memory. If you use something slower than PC4200, your other RAM will downclock itself. If you use something faster than PC4200, the newer RAM will downclock itself.

You can probably upgrade the processor too.

currently there are 2 slots w/ 512MB of ram in each slot.
    The oem ram is 200pin 4200 SO-DIMM 533mhz

I wanted to put to completely replace the ram w/

    (2) 1Gb DDR2 PC5400 SODIMM 667MHz

that would be fine .. correct?
