I'm about to buy a new notebook (Sager NP2090), and I noticed that it will cost $80 to upgrade from 1gig of ram to 2gigs (2 SODIMMs PC2 5300). On Newegg I found 1x2gb SODIMM with a $15 rebate for $97. Since it comes with a standard 1gig, that would give me 3gigs for $17 more than 2gigs. Is it worth the upgrade?

I just bought that exact memory for my G1S. It's a great deal, though I haven't got my laptop yet.
Mine came with 2x1GB, so I'm going to have to take a stick out to leave me with 3GB.
I think it's worth it, its really easy to install too. -
chances are you laptop will only come with 2 ram slots so upgrading will probably be impossible. Also depending on the OS of the notebook it may not be able to recognise the 3gb even though it will make a little bit of a difference

sorry didnt see the bit about the 1x SODIMM ram, ignore the first part of what i said

Thanks guys. I just realized that the 2gigs from the reseller are in dual channel, whereas I'm not sure if the 3gigs will be in dual channel or not. Both are DDR2 677 PC2 5300. But in one config you have 2x1gb dual channel, and in the other you have 3gigs (maybe in dual channel?) - which config would be better?

The 3 gigs will perform better as long as they have the same frequency (667MHZ would be best). 1 GB from each stick will be used as dual channel while 1 GB on the 2GB stick will not be. This will still allow it to outperform 2x1GB though.

thanks everybody, 3gigs ordered
Upgrade to 3 gigs of ram?
