Will current generation laptops be compatible with OLED's whenever they become available?
I'm currently drooling over the new Thinkpads. Man I would love to tear out that 1440p panel and slam it in my P650RS with the 1070. What a perfect marriage.

Yes, their interface is the same (both eDP) and they use less power, so system can deliver that.
And indeed, a black value of zero is terribly hard to ignore ... add 100% Adobe RGB and it'll be perfect for movies. Plus, with response times superior than even TNs, that means even fast-paced games would do well on these (and 120 Hz'ed movies, too). Best of both worlds, really.
There is the tendency for burn-in, however, so we'll probably see the Return of the Screensaver. Only it had better be a smart version this time; software should keep track of the run-time of each R/G/B pixel and then compensate those that have seen less use by running these during screen-saver time. That means 4 hours of use; a little under 4 hours of compensation and then go to sleep. Disadvantage then is their full-glory lifespan will be diminished even further (they age much faster than LCDs). Perhaps we'll get used to replacing them every few years or so, same as with batteries. -
Very interesting and thanks for the reply! I think I'd be fine replacing them given how incredible they look. They've ruined all other screens for me.

I looked at an oled on an alienware 13 in best buy. Beautiful screen. I wasn't able to do much testing. But I didn't see any ghosting.

Good to hear. I'm upgrading as soon as possible. I've been spoiled with the Samsung Note OLEDs for years and have been waiting for them to finally his this market.Zenobia K'eal likes this.
