    Hey guys,
I am getting the Asus G75vw-rs72....there is an option to upgrade from 60% ntsc Color gamut to 90% (both glossy) .... I will be using this laptop for gaming only....
Now some ppl said higher color gamut for gamers is not a good thing while others recommended it....some said that having higher color gamut means a dull picture... Please help me decide, it costs +185$

If it doesnt make a difference then I could use it for cpu upgrade
    Default : I7 ivy bridge 3rd gen 2.3-3.3
    Upgrade: i7 ivy bridge 3rd gen 2.6-3.6 (350$)

Please give me ur opinion on both cases gaming wise

I don't see how having a colour higher gamut can be seen as a bad thing unless it only comes as a matte display which some people may construe as being 'duller' than glossy. It's entirely subjective, the definitive answer is if you could see the two displays in person. For only gaming and no photo/video editing choose the cheaper display unless money is no object.

I'm guessing those are the new quad-core Ivy Bridges both of which are more than sufficient for gaming. Go for the default 2.3GHz processor and upgrade the GPU instead.

Did you just refer to matte display as being "worse"? roflmao!

Higher color gamut screen is better -- it can display more colors than lower color gamut screen. This CPU upgrade is pretty much pointless, unless you intent to play a games like bad console ports (e.g. GTAIV) where CPU usage is very high.

It's definitely worth it, although calibrating the screen it makes the whole experience even better :)

Where do you get the option to choose screens on the G75? Is the upgraded screen 120hz?

Not quite, the OP stated how he heard some people say higher gamut displays are worse for gaming which makes no sense to me unless such people preferred glossy when the higher gamut is only available in matte (I don't know what configurations the Asus comes in btw). If it was me I'd go for the upgraded screen in a heartbeat but everyone's criteria is different. The OP may find the additional $185 is not worth it in only gaming applications. Having said that, the screen on my current notebook (greater than sRGB coverage) is much better than my old glossy Vaio in just TF2. I absolutely hate glossy screens now.

Dam I wouldn't do any of those upgrades, they aren't cost effective.

I only paid $95 to go from 60% to 95% gamut screens.
That processor ain't worth the extra $350 too so I would hold off the overpriced upgrades.

I think if its a matte screen you should go for the higher gamut, if its glossy it wont be necessary (just my opinion). if it was me I'd spend that extra cash on an SSD!
