Hello everybody.![]()
I want to buy new laptop and I got confused when I reach to the processor. I'm computer programmer and I use Visual studio 2010 , Photoshop , Apache server also I plan to use Maya . Also I love to watch HQ videos.
So I know I have to get big RAM but what about the processor. So will i7 740QM be good choice or i7 840 QM
waiting for your reply to buy it immediatly

What's the price difference?
-
I think it is $300 .

i really wouldn't get 840qm... it's barely faster than 740qm... your better off saving the money and spending it on SSD... i have a 740qm and really its fast enough...

Not only is that a 50% price premium over what Intel suggest for it 'tray' prices that the manufacturer is almost sure to beat, it will only get you at the most a 9% performance increase - in most programs probably only 3-5% achievable.
Save the $300 unless that 3-5% performance improvement will make your money back in six months or less (when you'll want to upgrade to the latest platform anyway - if performance is your most important requirement).
Good luck. -
Spend that $300 for a decent SSD. You will get the best bang for the buck...

Since you're a programmer, I say it's worth it. Get the 840.

As a developer, most of the time I am staring at the screen
If you mean compilation, both are quad and the only difference is the slightly higher GHz. I concur with ramgen that the extra 300 bucks would yield better productivity via an SSD(large solution build has lots of storage access ). -
$300 won't be enough if u get a 256GB one but for a 128GB its perfect... sandforce SSD's or crucial C300 SSD is what u need...
Upgrade to i7 840
