    Hi,
I have a toshiba L350-21U and for many reasons, I don't want to change my laptop. (one reason : it's a 16/10 17" screen... and it's very difficult to find another laptop with this spec)

    So my toshiba L350 :
Type de processeur Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo T6500, 2100 MHz (10.5 x 200)
    Alias du processeur Penryn-2M
    Identifiant de la plate-forme 20h / MC 80h (Socket 479)

Chipset de la carte mère Intel Cantiga GM45
    plateforme Intel Montevina
    Type de Bios Insyde (09/07/2009)
    Vitesses FSB supportées FSB533, FSB667, FSB800, FSB1066
Forme du composant 1329 Pin FC-BGA

(sorry it's in french but you can understand with values)

So my socket is P ?! I would like to change my T6500 to Q9100 ( why not? :D )
On this page : CPU-Upgrade: Intel GM45 Express chipset processor support I see that my laptop (GM45) is ok for Q9100.

    Problem with TDP ? T6500=35W and Q9100=45W.

    Thank you :)

I suggest against the quad-cores; the Satellite L350 was only offered with dual-core processors. Even if the quad-core processor does work, it may overheat since the heatsink is probably just enough for a dual-core.

Theoretically you could upgrade to one of the faster Core 2 Duos; T8xxx and T9xxx series. Let's see if anyone else can chime in and confirm if one of those will work.

You should be good with any late stepping socket p processor. The late steppings are very important if you want a fast processor (up to x9100) and want to keep the heat under control.

    Hi,
Thank you to you two !
I'm french so sorry if I have bad understood.

I've understood the story of heat.

X9100 : too expensive for the power.. and it's 45w of TDP. Like/As the Q9100.

I've also though of the P9700 and the T9600 with the right TDP. ( 35W )

    I can find these µP for 80-110$.. (60-80€ ;) I think that I'll try.

Agreed - the P9600/9700 and T9600 are good choices. Good luck & let us know how it goes.

I would be careful about Toshiba/Acer laptops, even if it says a GM45 chipset, they always like to put in gimped chipsets like GL940. Alot of Toshiba/low end Acer threads always have issues with CPU upgrades (turning off after 30 mins, implies BIOS whitelist). I would say make sure the CPU you can return from wherever you buy it from. You MIGHT be able to get away with T series Core 2 Duo's or Toshiba approved CPU's for that model/chipset.
