I have a Sony PCG-FRV27 and it came with an ATI Radeon IGP 345M graphics card and uses 128 megs of the systems 512 megs of ram.

My question is, can I replace it with a better graphics card something that might play the newer games like Doom3 that may have it's own on-board ram instead of using system ram?

    Hi Bat64dc,
No you can't upgrade the videochip in your sony. There are only a few makes/models that this is possible in and none are made by Sony.

    hi guys,

i just bought an HP pavilion dv1040us laptop, Pentium M 1.6Ghz 600Mhz with 512Mb of RAM. i generally love this laptop. but when im playing games, specially "farcry" and "NFSU2", the graphics is choppy, and slow,.. i've read and had some research on some forums and reviews and such, i understood that my graphics card "intel extreme graphics with only 32MB" of shared memory is not designed for games. and now, i've seen the "ATI mobility 9600/9000 series", or the "Geforce go series". im wondrin if i can replace/upgrade my intel graphics with one of this,.. and by the way, maybe someone could direct me where to buy this stuff too, or any websites regarding my problem!!!

any help will be appreciated a LOT! thanks in advance,. have a great day[ ;)]

    to wolfzigen,

I'm afraid you're not going to be able upgrade your graphics card because it is like it's a part of the mobo, you cant do anything about that, its stuck at intel extreme, unless they ever come out with external graphics cards.

to prokey, you can only upgrade if the notebook you have supports a higher quality card, go back to the site and see if there are any higher options to get for your model, and you should be able to upgrade to those.

I've got a Sony Vaio Z505rx...do you think upgrading the ram to 192 and the HD will do me any good? Right now when I play video clips it's choppy or does not play at all even at the lowest levels. It runs windows 2000 and firefox/thunderbird/excel pretty good.

Also when i use i-tunes with this machine it blew up the HD. After using it for a week to play music as I work the HD makes a clicking noise. Is this the result of itunes needing to acccess the HD so often? Or if I get the new drive will it be cool?

    Great Forum!
    thanks

I have an HP zt3010us that I've owned for over a year now. I'm trying to figure out if I can upgrade the video card on it to something more substantial than the 32mb one that it comes with. Is this possible?

On HP's parts page I can buy the original card to replace a defective one, so that seems to me that it's not integrated with the mobo. But how do I find out what the max vid card I can put on is, if I can even do it? Thanks!
