ok so i just gotmy t7600 in yesterday and pulled my laptop apart installed the cpu all is good.
i have a few questions on the burn in period on thermal compund. i went with the tg-1 thermal compound its supposed to be a little better than the as5 who knows anyway i was wondering about how long does the burn in period take. where the curing or bonding is complete on the thermal paste?
i watched alot of videos on how to apply the paste and first i did a small sized drop and did the spread out technique and checked the temps and they were ok but not to my liking.
so the next attempt i did the small drop method and put the HS on and the temps were better but i thought i may have used a little too much which i did.
so the last attempt i did a smaller drop on both gpu and cpu. about a rice grain maybe a tad smaller, and put on the heatsink.
this time i think its better right now im seeing about 40c idle and about 45-52c with mild load. max load about mid 70c's
i did the passmark burn in test for cpu temp and it passed.
basicly my main question is, is there a burn in period where the compound cures better for cooler temps and are my temps decent for such a high performance cpu?

I think that depends on the thermal compound. Does the manufacturer of the tg-1 say anything about that on their website?
I know Arctic Silver 5 has a 200 hours break-in period, but I'm not sure I believe all that "break-in" stuff. It always seems to work as well on day one as it ever will.
In my case, T9900 is about 29~31C idle and 59~62C @100% CPU usage. I use the AS5 btw. -

this laptop is a toshoba satilite A205-S4617.
im not sure if i would have been better off going with the as5 or if this is the best performance i am going to get as far as thermal paste or compound is concerned.
it could just be the best temps i am going to get as far as the factory heatsink and fan is going to give me. i mean its not like its overly hot or anything or that i have given it ample time to break in and see if there is any drops in tempature.
i have definitly seen a huge jump as far as performance goes from the 1.6ghz c2d to the 2.33ghz c2d -
ok so i went out and bought me some artic silver 5. i did it 2 ways to check the temp and see what worked best. as recomended i went with the line mthod, i felt most comfortable with that method as i think i put just the right ammount on. i cleaned the cpu and gpu with both alcohol wipes then goo gone then alcohol and a fresh clean dry wipe. then applied the small line vertically on both cpu and gpu.
i reinstalled everything. and checked the temps i am still seeing like 43-48c with video downloading and surfing the net and listening to music and this and that.
i guess i will have to wait and see after 200 hours if the artic silver cools down better. it says like 2-5c decrease in temps, if that is the case then i might see like 40-45c with mid load i guess that isnt bad.
i will over the next few days leave the laptop running all day then let the laptop cool off overnight. and then see where that puts me as far as temps.
do you think that the 43-48c is high? or average fir a high power cpu in the a205? its only running a single fan. i bought canned air and cleaned both the heat sink and the fan so everything is fresh. -
It seems to be a bit on the high side though. At least it's not overheating.
BTW, Arctic Silver recommends the surface spread method for Core 2 Duo mobile CPUs though.

ok lol i took the laptop apart. since you make me realize i did the wrong procedure lol, i was quick to do this the time before becuase i did it so many times before and was aggravated lol
so i took it apart reapplied the as5 in the spread method got it pretty thin and even, i took the heat sink and did the polish/tinting.
i let the laptop run for a few hours and heat up then shut it off for the night and now this morning i turned it back on
now i think i got it right lol i am seeing core #0 25c core #1 27c with light load. surfing the web,downloading videos and music and whatnot. seems to be running much much cooler now.

Also realize almost all thermal paste has a burn in period. Your temperatures may drop a few degrees lower.

There probably is a settling period for the TIM but as reviews of ages past have all shown expect maybe .5*C to a whopping 2* C drop at most. If you think your temps are going to go down 5 - 10*C after the thermal paste fully settles then you have another thing coming.
I used AS5 on my T7600 and I used the spread method in my NC8430 and my idle temps were and still are around 51 - 53*C with load not getting too much higher than 71* C. The best thing you can do to drop your temps is load up RMClock and undervolt the CPU. Without RMClock I can watch the CPU sky rocket past 80*C and OCCT to shut down saying CPU TOO HOT!
Here are the settings I used for my T7600:
6x 0.95v
7x 0.95v
8x 0.95v
9x 0.95v
10x 0.95v
11x 0.95v
12x 0.9875
13x 1.0375v
14x 1.0875v
Every CPU is different as the rule goes but this should give you an idea of what to aim for.
Also, I set my laptop to use power on demand when plugged in and power saving on batteyr where I use the 6x multi only.
