Reviews from newegg (note: newegg model doesn't have G-shock protection)

I clone the drive from the old to the new. (note: cloning a dual boot w/ vista is tricky, I had to change the drive letters between C and D.. for more info http://www.multibooters.co.uk/cloning.html#letters )
I had a dual boot:
Old Vista boot time = 65 secs
New Vista boot time = 47 secs (edit 40 sec after changing some vista settings)
38% increase (edit 62% after changing some vista settings)
Old XP boot time = 31 secs
New XP boot time = 25 secs
24% increase

That`s about as much as I can expect when I`ll upgrade...nice.
Although I`ll get a 320 gb 7200 one, with 3 platters -

However, when I tried the same in mid-2007 using TrueImage 10 then the cloning disn't work properly.

How exactly did you measure the time? From the BIOS "Picture" until the first responding Explorer window or just til the desktop was up?
I get 53 secs benchmarking that way with a Hitachi 160GB 7200rpm -
If you have the Hitachi GST Travelstar 7K200 HTS722020K9SA00. Toms hardware benchmarks it at 53 (higher is better).
It doesn't have my exact model, but the one close to it benchmarks at 45 (but is 160GB and only 8mb cache not 16mb) -
ahh, that way i get 37 secs. Have u optimized ur Vista?
-
no i havent..thanks i'll check it out
well I do have an external monitor connected... Write caching was not on...and my Vista boot is on the tail end of the hard drive. -
-
My bad, I was thinking about a 500 GB one, 5400 rpm when mentioning the 3 platter thing.
-
Is the Seagate HOT! as one of the NewEgg posters suggested?
-
temperature 32C..... is that hot????
I enable some settings...caching... and after the a reboot (earlier I was clicking around... this time i left the mouse alone) here is a second test

I have the same hdd. The speed is 7200.2
Great price in the link you posted.
I think the Newegg version is exactly the same. -
Nice temps!
SonDa5 - the OP's version has a "G" on the end of the part number - appartenly they make one with and one w/o the G-Shock protection and Newegg's does not have the "G" in the part number.
I am bookmarking that site - much better pricing than Newegg. -
I ordered one from Dell awhile back when they were on sale. Mine has the "G" at the end as well.
I looked at Seagate's WEB site and they list the G's as being 7200.3 models.
Upgraded hard drive 7200rpm with new Boot Times
