    Went from a Celeron M 370 to a Celeron M 380 :D :p

Got it on ebay for 9 bucks, and wanted a spare CPU. Decided to swap them, and use the ever so slightly faster CPU in my laptop.

Nice work. Just watch the heat level just in case the thermal pad/grease didn't get cleaned off the old chip or reapplied properly. Not that I've ever had that happen, mind you...

Heat level is fine. Actually seems to be running cooler overall after the generic white goup was replaced with some artic silver. Fan cycles on much less now. Just sucks that the celeron has no internal temp sensor to read its temps off from.

that was a fair waste of time and 9 bucks ! ........ even getting the slowest pentium m would have given much more benefits

defo not as cheap as 9 bucks but i wouldnt mind spending more and watching for the first bargain pentium m that comes along and your cpu was working fine so you could have waited aslong as you needed

It took a whole 5-10 min, and I could care less about a P-M in the laptop. I get 5+ hours of battery life already in it, and it is fast enough to decode 1080P HD movies with the mpeg4 decoder built into the gma900.

Most models which use celeron-m 300s have various different specs including 360 370 380 and 390, so heat shouldn't be a problem. I too can see why you did it, the 380 is a great chip (me? biased?) although I might not do the same. I would get a p-m tho simply for speedstep, however the 400Mhz fsb models (7*5) are all expensive so unliekly i'll find one for 9 bucks!

    p.s. if anyone knows of a cheap pentium-m 765...

I personally would have searched untill the end of the world to find a Pentium M like a 745, but I am very compulsive when it comes to laptops. For $9 it was probably worth it, and that spare CPU may just come in handy durring troubleshooting. You could also probably sell it for $10...

I have got a spare laptop MB for 1 buck on ebay a while back for my current laptop, have a extra 256 stick of DDR2, and was planning on using the extra CPU to make a super small efficient computer. I just didn't buy the CPU to upgrade my laptop, but when I was searching for another 370 celeron, I found this for about a third of the price AND it was faster. I couldn't say no and had to buy it ;)
