ok, Is running hotter. I can feel the heat all over the place. b4, with the 1gb oem rams, it was rarely ever hot and the fan rarely ever went on unless I was playing games on it. I can feel the hot areas where it use to be pretty warm.

    lol right...

have you tried taking it out and using your old setup?

RAM cant make enough heat to make the whole notebook run hot, unless your notebook is made out of aluminium

The guy says his notebook gets hotter where it used to be warmer - I strongly believe this and It could be a bad sign

its a HP DV1000. It is hotter and I can tell the difference. I use my laptop everyday.. Like I said, b4, the fan rarely ever went on. When I 1st installed the new ram, I noticed that the laptop was running slower and the fan was contently on.

I thought it just needed to adjust to the new ram. I will be installing the old ram later tonight.

Its running slower and hotter with the new memory?

Is this memory Pc5300, cause thats what youre system is designed to use.
If its Pc6400, than yes, it is going to get hotter than pc5300 memory.
If the system is running, you could have accidentally bought pc4200 memory.

    What memory did you buy?
And you should check to see if your power settings are the "always on/maximum performance" one.

I have a dv2000 with 2x2gb kingston ram. I just dont see how its possible to notice that much heat comming from the RAM.

I suggest returning it and purchasing a different brand RAM. Make sure you get the exact correct type of ram. Try g.skill brand

Then measure the temps with and without the RAM. What I meant when I said "Seems like it's hotter or IS hotter" was that are you actually measuring temps?

I cant think of any technical reason for the laptop to run hotter with your ram upgrade, infact upgrading your ram could even cool things down because more data can be stored in the ram and eliminate some page file use (hdd use) if you feel extra heat now and you are 100% sure and confirmed it then this is not a normal thing and most definitly means some sort of hardware failure or malfunction.

First thing to do is change back to your old ram and see if the problem persist, if it does take that ram back and say its faulty. If its still there after the swap then that means you may have damaged something when you did the upgrade probably with ESD, but possibly you grounded something too.

Ok, this makes no sense at all. I installed the old rams back in and everything is back to normal. Laptop runs cooler and quieter.

    Old ram: hynix 512 x2 PC4200

    New ram kingston 1gb x2 PC4200

oh yeah, b4 the installation of the rams, i updated a bunch of stuff via Windows Update. None of the updates were priority updates. I was just bored and downloaded every single update and installed it. after the update, and reboot, my speakers stopped working and the bluetooth network thing was f'd up. I had to go to systems - hardware and reinstall the sound driver and some other stuff.

other then that, no other updates. I'll stick with my 1gb for now and return my 2gb rams.

Just the BIOS update, Go to the HP websites driver downloads page. Type in your notebooks serial # and check/download the latest BIOS

The bios controls the fans and also does stuff with the RAM

Also make sure that you look at the cooling guide...the dv1000 is an old notebook so the fans should be clogged with dust so if you havent already, I suggest that you clean the fans(or atleast blow out some dust).

I am also curious to see some temps(check out this guide on how to monitor temps)
