I'm a 16 y-o from Vietnam who bought his 1st laptop. It's a X31, Type 2672-CBA S/N 99-BHNT2 04/01. It came with 1,4 GHz Centrino Pentium M, 1 GB RAM, and 40 GB memory. I really like it eventhough it is a little bit slow. I want to upgrate it but I don't know what I can do because I read conflicting informations. E.g : 2 GB RAM versus no more than 1,5 GB RAM. Up to 60 GB 7200 RPM HD versus no more than 40 GB 5400 RPM. So I'm very confuse. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1GB should be fine for XP, no need for more. A clean install is the most easy way to speed up your system. How many processes do you have running now?

Look if you can find a Samsung HM160HC, it's the fastest ATA drive and it may work in your system. I'm not sure though.
