    Upgrades or more performance

    Hi im looking to get the most out of my laptop, currently it has:
    Intel i7 2630QM
    Nvidia GT540m
    8gb Sansung 1600mhz Ram
    750gb WD Black 7200rpm Hard Drive
    Windows 8 64bit

    Its a Sony Viao VPCF22MOE

    Its main purpose is gaming at the moment.

    Not sure what you're looking for, deanovip, other than perhaps hardware recommendations. A SSD will certainly easily replace that WD black drive, but the premium is the drawback on purchasing any SSD. Samsung, Crucial, and Intel are the top dogs in the SSD market at the moment, and Corsair and Kingston make decent drives as well.

    You can't upgrade to a Ivy Bridge CPU as it's a different socket, so unless you upgrade to an extreme series model, you'll have to make due with that 2630qm (which is still a good processor). The 540M is a decent GPU but a bit dated for modern games. It will still run quite a few, but just don't expect high FPS in ultra settings with it in games like Farcry 3 or The Witcher 2.

    8 GB of RAM should be fine as is, and according to Crucial, that's the maximum amount of memory the system will support.
