Is this a upgrade or a downgrade? There's some cheap PC3-8500 on sale right now.
Processor is i5-460m so it supports 10600.

Likely a downgrade, because unless you're a graphic designer, or video editor or something else like that, you won't benefit from 8GB over 6GB, especially taking the speed hit.

@OP: Check the task manager and see if you are running out of memory(>75% usage). Upgrading is definitely not a downgrade. -
i think u'd see slight improvements, u'll be going to dual channel

More memory will only be better if you're using it...I know memory bandwidth doesn't matter that much, however if he's not using, will it really be worth it?

Okay, I can agree to that.
I was considering it as a cost/benefit ratio. I mean you get a slower bandwidth (which I know isn't that important), but if you're not using the extra 2GB, then why bother? -
